Our girls have surprised us with dinner on several occasions throughout the years, but last night was by far the best. I remember one of the first times the girls wanted to serve dinner to us. They created menus after investigating whatever leftovers we had in the fridge. Those menus were so cute; written quickly on piece of scratch paper with misspelled words that were running downhill on the page. The best part was when we received a bill after we had dined on warmed up leftovers. Another time the girls made menus that had polka-dots all over them and sprinkled the table with confetti. Our invitations then said that we were invited to dinner at the Polka-Dot Cafe. Brent and I have thoroughly enjoyed each time that our girls have wanted to serve us. We are blessed by them.
Yesterday I was banished to my bedroom from about 4:00 on. The girls delivered me bottled water and requested that I not come out. I could hear all kinds of racket: running up and down the stairs, door slamming from going in and out of the garage, and pans clanging. I decided I'd better just read a book and not think about what was going on. Why do I get so nervous not knowing what they are doing in my kitchen? Brent called and gave the girls his ETA, so they would know exactly when to have dinner ready. The only problem was that he delayed by a wreck and took much longer than expected. The girls handled it very well. When Brent did arrive home he was met at the door and escorted into the bedroom as well. A few minutes later our waitress arrived to escort us to our table. We were directed upstairs, which to our amazement the girls had created a very intimate room by hanging sheets from the ceiling and placing a small table in the middle. I was amazed, thinking how creative our children are! They had taken so much time to prepare our little room and the table was set beautifully. We were immediately served our appetizers: gourmet olives, aged-white cheddar cheese, and prosciutto. We were then served a Greek salad with feta cheese & grape tomatoes, drizzled with lemon and olive oil.

Next was our entree: fizzy chicken, drizzled with lemon vinaigrette, Parmesan rice, steamed broccoli with cheese, and cheese bread. Not only was it beautiful, it tasted just as good, if not better. Our waitress did a superb job making sure our glasses were filled and we had everything that we needed.
After dinner the girls came up the stairs singing Happy Anniversary and served us cake. They also brought presents and an adorable card for us. We all shared the chocolate cake and chocolate covered strawberries. I told Ashley that I haven't ever had a cake that tasted so good; it tasted like fudge.
What a wonderful evening!
