This past Saturday we were working in our yard, it had been neglected for way too long. We mulched around the pool, planted flowers & a tree, trimmed the bushes, fertilized, fixed a sprinkler head, planted some more flowers, and trimmed trees. As many of you know, heights and Brent do not get along too well. I had just told Ashley to get the camera for me and she came out of the house and shot this picture, so no, it wasn't planned. In this picture you can clearly tell that Brent isn't fond of climbing ladders.
We tried to keep the girls busy with various jobs, but there were moments here and there when they really didn't have a job to keep them busy. And then we would find Blair doing something like this:(Notice how dirty Blair's shirt is, she is the clean one of the family at this time. Brent and I look much dirtier and my hair is a perfect frizz ball, if you can call a frizz ball perfect.)
And this is exactly what Blair was doing when our perfectly good Saturday fell apart. What you can't see in this picture is a shed that we have in our back yard. Blair is on one side of the shed with the goose, and we are on the other side trimming trees. Out of the blue we heard the girls screaming and hollering. At first we didn't respond. I really thought that Ashley (being a little klutzy at times) might of accidentally hit Blair with the rake that she was using. But when the girls didn't let up after a couple of seconds, I took off to see what was wrong. A big golden lab was what was wrong. He had gotten himself between Blair and the goose and goose was going to be a snack. I took off kicking and chasing the dumb dog all the way out to the street.
In the mean time Brent realizes that there is trouble and he hears Blair crying, sees the dog, and makes the assumption that the dog bit Blair. He picks up the closest tool, which happened to be a narrow irrigation shovel and takes off after the dog. The shovel is flying through the air like a javelin only to miss the dog. Brent continues chasing the dog and throwing the shovel down the road. BTW, the neighbors were watching this little episode and I am have no idea what they must think of this crazy shovel throwing man. I only wished I would have been able to video it.
We return to our posts and commence working only to hear the girls announcing that the dog was back a few minutes later. Brent quickly picked up his shovel and throws it at the dog once again. At the same time Maggie takes off after the lab and the shovel hits Maggie instead of the lab. The rest of the story is way to traumatic to blog.... suffice to say, the remainder of the day was a bit sad. Maggie is doing well and has almost completely recovered. We are all so thankful that she was not more seriously injured, and that she'll be around for a few more years.
